The Julie Award

With a nod to its namesake and her exemplary career as a leader and Chief Nurse Executive for the entire Advocate Health Care system, the Julie W. Schaffner Ovarian Cancer Fund annually sets aside a small portion of available funding to support programs that are developing the next generation of professional leaders in the health care industry.
The Julie Award is an honor that is bestowed annually on nursing leaders and frontline associates at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. To receive the Award, recipients must demonstrate commitment and achievement in the following areas — transformational leadership, structured empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge and innovations and empirical outcomes.
Awards are presented to nursing units that “demonstrate their commitment to continuing Julie’s mission to be ‘the best’ and provide patients, associates and physician partners an environment of compassion and clinical excellence.”
